Friday Random Ten, May 12th

  1. Solas, "The Hanover Reel/John James Reel/The Copperplate". Great traditional Irish band.
  2. New Grange, "Under the Hood". New Grange is a sort of bluegrass superstar band made up of performers from Compass Records: Allison Brown, Tim O'Brien, Mike Marshall, Darol Anger.
  3. Shirim, "Moldavian Tantz". Amazing Klezmer.
  4. The Ligeti Project, "Hamburg Concerto for Solo Horn". Modern classical music that I bought based on a recommendation from the FRT two weeks ago. I haven't listened to it enough to have a firm opinion yet.
  5. Mussorgsky, "Promenade" from "Pictures at an Exhibition". The original piano version. Very sparse compared to the orchestral one we usually here. Very nice.
  6. Happy Rhodes, "Out Like a Lamb". Happy Rhodes is a relatively obscure singer in roughly the same vein as Kate Bush. Excellent songwriter, beautiful voice.
  7. Steve Hackett, "Rise Again". Wonderful stuff from the guitarist from the glory days of Genesis.
  8. Moxy Fruvous, "Michigan Militia". Hysterical.
  9. Yes, "Changes"
  10. Hugh Blumenfeld, "Saxton's River".
